Our monetary system has failed. Game over.

Most of the problems and misalignments in our world today exist because of money.

Think about it… Get rid of the monetary system and you eradicate most issues. Only a very small percentage of privileged people, those who know how to play the game efficiently, benefit from this monetary system that has been established at one point in history.

At its core, though, this ancient, destructive, ego-driven system of currency, exchange, power, politics, and getting paid for things is based on fear instead of love—doomed to failure.

What would people do if they would not receive money for, or a monetary benefit from, the things they know and do? Some say money wouldn’t bring happiness. Why then do millions and millions of people suffer so horribly on our planet? At the same time there are others who watch this with the intention of retaining the status quo, due to money and the fear of loss.

What would you do if you would get the things you need and desire, without the need for receiving money for anything? Would you still do the same work you do now? Would you still lie and cheat? Would you still give the impression of being someone that you actually aren’t and doing things that you actually don’t do? Would you still be together with the same person? Would you still hurt people (and, in turn, hurt yourself)?

I think that most of these negative emotions and destructive behaviors are due to the monetary system on planet earth. And when you get rid of it you eliminate fearful and harmful behavior at the same time.

We need a new system that benefits all equally, all 7 billion of us.

Here’s part of my vision for a better world in which most, if not all, people would benefit greatly and enjoy a good and better life.

No more money.

No money = no more crime.

No money = no more wars.

No money = no more poverty.

No more competitive, egocentric, better-than-thou thinking & attitudes.

Prosperity is shared equally among all. We don’t work for one person or one company or one government. Instead, every individual works for the prosperity and well-being of all 7 billion people on our planet at the same time.

People still work, but everyone is being compensated or rewarded equally—solely based on the amount of hours contributed to the local, national, and global community.

With this substantial change comes an elevated awareness of one-consciousness.

Life is filled with, and based on, affinity and harmony.

Decisions are lead by unconditional love.

Now, some might be wondering how we could possibly survive without money. How would we get food and something to drink, for example? What about shelter? How could we “afford” that new gadget, car, dress, dinner when money doesn’t exist anymore?

I am confident that we are smart enough to figure these kind of things out. As a matter of fact, we do that already every single day. Our planet exists, survives, and thrives because of us.

Living in a world without money.

Without money, we would still continue to do the things we already do, or, even better, do what we love to do.

How exactly could this work out? Hmm, perhaps with some sort of a collective reward system from the community? Like the “thumbs up” way of approval you see on social platforms—where good and truly beneficial things are being evaluated, valued, and approved by the collective wisdom.

These types of approvals could be on papers, ID cards, websites, whatever.

As far as such a collective reward system is concerned, I can imagine 4 – 8 “levels” here, according to the amount of hours contributed (one “level” per hour per day). Those who don’t work would receive (nonetheless good) primary care, whereas those who spent 4 – 8 hours per day working for the prosperity and well-being of all would receive (i.e., could “order”) whatever they desire. Then the other levels in-between.

You think that people would get lazy and stop working? Think again…

People have desires. Although guaranteeing survival, we want more than the basic stuff and primary care. So we’ll continue working in order to enjoy a better lifestyle (travel, a better car, electronics, jewelry, certain clothes, bigger homes, help, services, etc.). And because we’re being rewarded equally, our motivation rises.

Why a maximum of 8 levels? This is to prevent the craziness that’s going on right now, with just a handful of smart or lucky millionaires & billionaires on one hand and an insane amount of people who can’t afford simple basic stuff on the other.

By the way, I don’t think that there would be a need for yet another political control mechanism for this type of system. What I do think is that the local, national, and global community enlarge would manage itself quite well—much better than certain people fear. ;-)

Let’s use a real-world example.

Do you like fresh bread in the morning? The baker continues to prepare fresh bread because he still wants to, not only see your happy smile when you pick up your bread, but also receive your approval for that he did a good job. And the truck driver will continue to deliver the goods necessary to prepare fresh bread as he wants the local community to thrive and be well, as well as receive the collective approval for doing a good job so that he can order/receive the things he desires. Similarly, the truck driver will still receive the gas (from the gas station) necessary to drive his truck, and support from car mechanics. And on it goes…

Folks would receive approval from the community for doing a good job and helping everyone to thrive. As a result, they can order the things they desire, according to the hours contributed—without any monetary exchanges.

No more differentiation.

I see no differences anymore in terms of the amount of reward one receives per hour of work. You spend one hour doing something for the local, national, and/or global community? You get the same amount of approval and prosperity—no matter where you live, which skin color you have, which language you speak, which education you received, which relationships you maintain, which people you know, your ability—or inability—to communicate and persuade, etc.

For example, the maid who’ll spent 5 hours cleaning my home tomorrow would enjoy the same level of prosperity than a boss of a big corporation who spent 5 hours in a meeting. Seeing this with the ancient way of life, the boss of the corporation would still have the same lifestyle (more or less), but for the maid it would mean a substantially better lifestyle—elevated to that of the boss.

The nurse who saved the life of two people would receive the same amount than the person who manages the hospital.

The guy who keeps a city’s streets neat and clean would receive the same amount than the city’s major.

The guys and girls who prepare and serve food in a restaurant would receive the same amount than the owner of the establishment.

Isn’t it amazing what that would lead us to?

No more political restrictions and borders.

I further see country borders vanish. Again, no money = no crime. Due to the elevated prosperity among all and the eradication of the monetary system, there would be no need anymore to politically “control” and “protect” stuff.

Heightened productivity.

With that being said, I think we can spend 50% less time working and still have the same amount, if not more, prosperity and well-being on our planet. If you look at it, most people that work in a 9 – 5 job environment are not that productive anyway, knowing that they only get a very small share of what they actually contribute time-wise. They could deliver the same amount of work in half the time, with more fun at work—knowing that what they do is for the greater good, for the expansion of their own prosperity and well-being as well as that of the local, national, and global community—rather than just for one person or a select few privileged.

If you still think that people would simply get lazy and fake things, again, I don’t think so. The local, national, and/or global community would notice it and point it out accordingly (lovingly & supportively, though). In addition, because prosperity is shared equally among all, the desire for pressure and cheating vanishes.

Again, remove fear from the equation and start to truly love and trust.

Raised motivation.

That being said, whatever we do we do it not just for a select few smart people but for all 7 billion. Don’t you think that this alone would give us a huge boost in motivation and productivity?

I do think so.

Also, as you can’t control (at least not for very long) the way someone lives his or her life (for example, you don’t like the way someone leads a company or country), removing the monetary system would automatically alter someone’s attitude and behavior to one that serves the good for all. Because, once you eliminate money, what is left?

The things one wholeheartedly wishes and desires.

Conclusion.

I hope & wish that we eradicate the ancient and destructive monetary system sooner rather than later; that we head towards oneness; that everyone enjoys a prosperous lifestyle on our planet; that we help and contribute to the local, national, and global community and benefit from it equally—without money, fears, lies, egocentricity, and laws, but with altruism, harmony, honesty, prosperity, trust, and unconditional love.

By the way, recent studies show that by sharing the currently available wealth equally across the planet, everyone would essentially be a millionaire (that is, in the outdated monetary system). However, since most people would or could not keep those millions of money, we need a new system in place that guarantees long-lasting welfare for all.

Our planet enlarge already does prosper, the wealth is just unfairly and unequally shared.

I very welcome the phase of time we are currently in. If you are fearful, don’t be. Trust in the good in humanity. Everything will work out well for everybody, including you. People will not stop working. Remember, we need each other.

Welcome changes. Applaud the demolition of the monetary system as it will bring us a much better, more beneficial system with infinite, equal possibilities for everyone.

Life is supposed to be fun, right? So let’s establish a system that ensures a fun experience for everyone. I’m so ready for it.

I barely scratched the surface here, though, and I’m open for more ideas from, um, the global community. :-)

Working online entails a lot of email communication, whether directly to your email address or via your website. No matter where your email messages come from, they are a top priority to answer fast and effectively.

Of course, I’m not talking about your personal emails from friends and relatives. I’m talking about business emails from your potential customers, or from loyal and repeat customers and clients that come to you again and again, giving you their business.

Today’s world has developed into one where people seem to want instant gratification in their demands. The Internet has, in a way, created a monster in this respect.

The Internet! Where else can you send a message to someone in India and get a response within minutes? Where else can you order a music CD from your living room and get a response that your order was received and is being processed, almost instantly?

The general online population has become used to having speedy responses, fast shipping times and rapid answers to questions. All this without the expense of overnighting letters, paying phone bills or driving downtown to buy a blanket.

Email messages between businesses and their customers are a key aspect to handling your business activities. You may send out email blasts to past or potential customers, reminding them to send in heir orders. You may send out newsletters or place banner ads.

However you choose to advertise, it is sure to elicit response, and this normally comes in the way of an email message. The person may want a quote. He or she may have some question about the product. The best way to handle your email messages is to answer everyone within an hour of receipt. I know this may seem impossible, but it isn’t. I have a friend who does this, and because of her fast response to customers, has more than 50% repeat business! This speaks for itself!

The absolute maximum time you should let an unanswered email sit in your in-box is 24 hours. People seem to be able to tolerate this much of a delay in hearing back. However, to create the best
impression, it’s better to answer much sooner. (Within three hours if at all possible.)

Today, with smart phone use being on the rise, it is simple to answer emails from customers or clients. You just have to remember to carry your phone everywhere you go. Easy. Many people do. You may need to carry some business papers with you in order to provide some of the details they ask for.

There’s nothing worse than emailing a company who you are interested in doing business with and getting a response a week later. Even worse, never receiving a response at all. We have to wonder, do these people even want to have a business? Are they still there?

Answering emails promptly impresses your customers. They know you are there and willing to help them. Chances are they will purchase your product or service, because you have already built their trust.

And answering promptly doesn’t mean you gotta do it yourself. Outsource it by finding a skilled Virtual Assistant who does it just as good — if not better — than you.

A great way to market your Internet business is to please your visitors with excellent content and make them stay & browsing your site.

Duh! Nothing new, right?

Still, up to now some of you may have only been concentrating on pleasing mainly the search engines spiders. If yes, well, then it’s time to adjust your strategy. Why? Because no matter how many search engine spiders visit your site, not one of them is going to buy anything, or click on any of the monetization links on your site.

Don’t neglect spiders, though. You do need both people and spiders finding your site. Yet you’ll want to increase word of mouth and have visitors come back for more over and over again.

The way to attract both is to have great content on your pages. Duh! (again)

So, here are five ways to market your site using content…

1. Include high quality content that’s relevant to your site.

Content is king!

You’ve heard that before, haven’t you? Of course… because it’s true.

The job of search engines is to locate relevant content. They love plain text and videos that are of high quality. They can’t read image or flash files. So add lots of text and videos.

In addition, visitors will only stay if they are interested in what you offer and begin reading and/or watching.

If your site is about business consulting, don’t have content about environment conservation. This only repels visitors, as they get upset that they aren’t getting what they came for, information about business consulting.

Stay focused and on topic.

2. Ensure your content is easy to understand.

To interest visitors, your message must come across in your text and/or video. If in a conversational style, all the better. Just don’t try and use fancy, intellectual terms within your writing if you’re not used to that lingo. How many times have you visited a website and found the content is so difficult to understand that you simply never returned?

Websites are really all about people. You not only want to make a good first impression, but you want to engage visitors, entertain them, and/or enlighten them. You do this with real communication, not just words thrown out there, trying to impress. If you’re not communicating on the level of your audience, it will turn them off.

Your marketing message should come across as believable, convincing, and “you.”

3. Write exciting and creative content that makes visitors want to stay and explore.

If you want to completely turn off all visitors, just add content that is totally boring and dull.

Don’t drone on and on… saying the same thing over and over again. If you can say it in 300 words, say it. Don’t add another 200 words just to meet any questionable “posting guideline.”

Get creative in your copy. Write in an attractive style and stick to your own individual attitude and style. If you write some interesting articles to include on your site — topics that you know would be of interest to your visitors — you’ll find they will stay and browse longer, and will be more likely to purchase or click on those money making links.

And remember, the content must, must, must be original. If it’s copied & pasted from other sites, or you post an idea that’s initially from another person or site and you don’t attribute it in your copy, both search engines and visitors will click the back button in their browser and won’t return.

4. Avoid typos.

Avoid typos and errors in grammar and punctuation as best as you can.

Certainly you’ve visited a site or even received some type of advertisement in the mail that contained spelling errors or was written badly. It can be distracting to your message.

I mean, I myself have typos all the time as English is my second language. Though I think I’ve learned & improved quite a lot over the years. Still, if in doubt, use one of the many spell checking services available online. (Can’t find the one I used to use though.)

5. Ensure keyword phrases flow naturally within the content.

Take whatever extra effort needed to limit the use of keywords in your copy. If tons of keywords are randomly thrown in, it will seem obvious to readers that you are not writing for them but for search engines. As a result, the text usually doesn’t flow or read well.

Make sure all keywords and keyword phrases fit into the text so they are hardly noticeable.

As for keyword density, about 1 to 3 percent should suffice.

If I write content myself, I let my creativity flow and write the whole content up first, all the while dismissing any rules and formalities. When I’m done I go through the text two more times to do my spell check and then my “SEO check” (or vice versa).

Bottom line?

Use exciting and targeted content on your site in plain text and/or video format to attract both humans and search engines.

Stay focused. Be cool. :-)

If you aren’t familiar with mind mapping yet, perhaps it’s time to learn about it.

In short, mind mapping is a marvelous method of planning, thinking and discovering ideas, tasks, concepts, strategies and goals.

More specifically, mind mapping is a drawn diagram that you use to generate new ideas, structure your thoughts and the like. Taking a key concept placed in the middle, you diagram out words, ideas and tasks in a radiating circle. It really helps with the visualization process!

In a nutshell, it’s a way to utilize the right side of your brain (responsible for creativity) when planning stuff… and I’m talking about anything imaginable like Web sites, products, projects, services, to-do lists, concepts, . For some people (like me), it goes much faster than writing it down in lists, phrases or full sentences.

After doing some mind mapping, you will find that the big picture becomes much clearer to you, even down to the most minute detail. An additional use is that it’s good for a study aid, in working out organizational problems… or actually any issue.

It gives you freedom to think, not constricting you to any one method or linear way of planning. The freedom means, in my view, that you can come up with new and different ideas — ones that may not have come to you in any other way.

You simply write down a central idea. Then you think up other related ideas that radiate out from that center. As you put these additional thoughts down on paper, online or offline, I think you’ll find you will understand and remember all these points much better.

Another neat thing about mind mapping is that you can use your own personal symbols and designs to stand for whatever you want. Besides that, you can add colors, arrows and so on to your heart’s content. Get creative!

Offline, I personally like to use brown package paper of a decent size (ex., 100x70cm).

Online, I prefer professional software for my mind mapping endeavors… Mindjet’s MindManager.

Occasionally, though, I changed recently, however, as I found some really good free programs available.

To students I recommended (and still do) Freemind, an open source software. But I while ago I’ve found an online mind mapping application that’s really good — and from a German company! — called mindmeister.com. It’s free to sign up and create a handful of mind maps, and it has the standard features of the more sophisticated MindManager software you otherwise have to pay $$$ for.

As I said, this is really priceless for planning out Web sites, products, events… the list is endless! :-) You can brainstorm, strategize and plan in so much more dynamic ways.

This is good news for those of you who need that extra spark for your planning or brainstorming. And the Mindmeister Internet portal is excellent because you have your maps accessible anywhere in the world and can work on them whenever and wherever you want. (Plus, you can share them & collaborate with others.)

Do you track Click-Through Rates (CTRs) in your AutoResponder using one of those obscure tracking URLs they generate? They look pretty much like so:

http://clicks.aweber.com/…

http://click.icptrack.com/…

What does that imply in some of your subscribers’ mind?

“That guy/garl is observing whether or not I clicked on that link.”

Do you agree that there are people who don’t want to be tracked or observed? Do you further agree that, if you constantly convert standard links to “trackable links,” some of your subscribers will deliberately avoid clicking on links in your AutoResponder messages?

If you agree to both, why then do you still track?

Oh I see… you want to know the percentage of those who did click through. Sounds obvious and reasonable.

Well, knowing what I just said above, what about a smarter and more effective approach? :-)

Track only once every now and then rather than each and every time.

When you track, say, every other month your subscribers are accustomed to standard links in your messages and likely won’t notice when you do decide to track click-throughs in one message. Thus your CTRs are more accurate and representative.

When starting to build your Internet business, you might be wondering about the difference between building a Web site and a blog exactly, and why the differentiation in the first place?

On a Web site and on a blog, you are going to have content all geared to promoting something to an end consumer. The end result is to monetize your endeavors in the long run. So okay, that’s not a difference but a similarity, but give me a minute and I’ll get there. ;-)

Both a Web site and a blog will have content and it all should be rich with keywords that will please the search engines. Again a similarity, but let’s take a look at this a little deeper.

When you have a blog, you are going to have to provide new content for it on a regular basis. Just to have one or two articles sitting there for weeks isn’t going to do anything. A blog has to be alive. It has to breathe!

On the other hand, a Web site can be built up with rich content and optimized to attract visitors and search engines, and you can let it sit and work for you. You don’t have to constantly update it — although it is good to freshen the content now and then.

Building your own Web site can give you more freedom. You build it and have the SEO content there, and it will continue to attract visitors for months and years to come. You can basically create it and set it on autopilot. Many prefer this to a blog where you will be adding content and monitoring comments, etc.

But then again, a blog can be a powerful Social Networking tool. It’s more interactive. You can get people coming again and again to get updated on current events or more news about a subject. Folks can get RSS feeds for new content when added.

Of course, the more exposure the customer has to your “brand,” the more likely he or she will be to purchase from you. For example, an individual visits your blog and sees a topic they are interested in learning about. They may return the next day to see if anyone added any information. And when they come back, they might click on an ad on your site or follow one of your valuable recommendations.

But the downside? You have to keep adding content, at least once or twice a week, to make this really work. If someone comes back and sees nothing new, they might not try again… and you’ve lost them.

When you do add new content to a blog, ensure it’s easy to find the older articles. You can do as I do and have the topics divided up so someone can go directly to the subject they are interested in.

The time to go with a Web site would be if you want to build one about something you know and love. For example, if you love and know a lot about cats and want to have information available to others about it, you can build an entire site about this topic.

Being able to make money with either a Web site or a blog is generally the same. You can make money with contextual advertising programs, with affiliate programs, or you’re your own product or service. You can also sell advertising space.

Good luck with whatever you choose! :-)

—Marcus Hochstadt

P.S. Here is another interesting viewpoint on whether one should build a Web site or a blog and for whom the dedication to full blogging might be a good choice when building an Internet business.

So here it goes…

Over the next… I dunno, couple of weeks (?) I’m going to share the videos I did for SiteSell.com and their flagship, SBI!, the best e-business building product in the world.

The A New Day video a.k.a. The First Day Of The Rest Of Your Life.

Go ahead and click on the video screen to watch it:

Watched?

Good.

If you are one of the lucky ones who have been able to quit their day jobs and work out of their home, you might find you are spending too much time spinning your wheels. Does this sound familiar? :-)

It’s great that you are moving forward and getting out of the grind. It’s really good that you work from home, since you’ll find the doors are open to more income and being more in control of your time.

But that’s the point here. Are you really in control of your time? Or is it in control of you still?

Does the broken garage door call out to be fixed? Is the movie on television more interesting that the AutoResponder sequence that you’d promised yourself to set up by last night? Do you prefer to spend a couple hours on Facebook to connect with friends over writing up & publishing a few Web pages? Is watching other people’s YouTube videos more attractive than creating and sharing your own (and have others watch yours)?

You have to be careful not to heed those destructive calls.

Now that you don’t have to commute to that nine-to-five work place, and you don’t have to listen to your former top dog anymore, well… you might think that sleeping in is a true luxury now.

You might think you can take a break whenever you want, get outside and maybe go for a run. But then, when the end of the day comes, do you have everything done that needs to be done?

Those hours go by really fast. The next thing you know… it’s time for bed! And you have to finish some work obligation by early tomorrow. Can you do it in the morning? Maybe. But maybe not. What have you gotten yourself into?

Of course, you are no stranger to hard work. You’ve been doing it for years. But you had a shotgun to your head, so to speak, and had to be there at a certain time and get certain things done in certain time frames.

The point?

Discipline and Deadlines.

Yours has to be of the highest quality if you want to maintain your home based business. You can’t let those hours slip away.

The best thing to do in these circumstances is to make yourself a schedule. What will you get done in the morning? What will you get done in the afternoon? Do you have time in the evening to work on a project if you don’t get it done earlier? You have to figure these things out.

But it isn’t just making a schedule, it’s KEEPING one. You have to stick with what you laid out to get things done in time.

And if you allow for some personal time in there (like a reward for finishing everything), you will find yourself really sticking to it. You’ll fly through your work and feel like a success when you achieve what you planned to for the day.

Watch those distractions. Sure, the plants need watering, the refrigerator needs to be cleaned out, and then all those time consuming researches on the Net… But these minor, unproductive tasks are going to have to wait until you make your targeted actions for the day.

You have a unique opportunity to get more done, work smart and achieve great things when you are self-employed. Don’t blow it by wasting your time doing non-income related, unproductive actions.

Work smart. Stick to a schedule. Prosper.

—Marcus Hochstadt

Are you running an Internet business? Well, I think so since you’re reading my blog. ;-)

Whether you’re running a sole Internet business or are about to bring your brick-and-mortar business online, you will definitely benefit if you do some marketing for it. How else can you grab the attention of several people and make them your customers? Doh!

One way is through video marketing. This involves video production or creating a certain video clip that can help promote your online presence, but you have to conceptualize it first. You don’t just come up with any video without thinking it through, because all your efforts will be useless if the video you created isn’t really effective in promoting your precious Internet business.

More often than not, you will also have to make use of video sharing sites (YouTube, Vimeo, Viddler, etc) one way or the other.

How Video Marketing Works

Some folks refer to it as video promotion, but the simple concept of this particular means of marketing is that you make use of videos to spread the word about your business, services or products and to develop your brand along the way. You need to think of video clips that can showcase your online business in a fun and interesting way.

Video marketing is somehow like article marketing. Though, instead of letting your current and potential clients read text, you allow them to watch videos that are related to and are promoting your Internet business. This concept works because we humans are very visual creatures.

After you’re done creating those promotional video clips of yours, you just have to upload them to a number of video sharing sites like YouTube and Vimeo so that people can see those videos marketing your business. Alternatively, upload them to TubeMogul to spread them across a number of video sharing sites all at once.

The Importance Of Video Marketing

Any marketing method is significant since it helps put the business involved on the map. However, video marketing is more important especially in these modern times wherein both the public and the search engines have developed a certain love for videos and are always hungry for video content.

Come to think of it… Video promotion or marketing helps decrease a website’s bounce rate. It also helps your site rank higher in search engines. Plus, your video clips themselves will rank high as well.

That’s quite a double treat, don’t you think? It can also aid in image branding and increasing credibility as well as professionalism of your Internet business.

Check Out The Video Boss Of Andy Jenkins

While many have already understood the importance of video marketing and how it can help their online businesses, several folks, Internet marketers and business owners are still skeptical. This is because they think video production is too technical and out of their league.

Good thing we have The Video Boss of my friend Andy Jenkins. What’s The Video Boss anyway? This is a training course and coaching program that can help the average individual make cutting-edge, high quality and, most importantly, profitable videos all on his/her own — using simple tools that might already be installed on your computer.

You should check out the free video tutorials inside The Video Boss and learn from his strategies and techniques. Apply them to your Internet business and video marketing efforts and increase YOUR bottom line (as I did). :-)

—Marcus Hochstadt

Update: The Video Boss has been shut down and taken off the market. So I removed the links from this blog post.

Entrecard Credits (sorry, contest is already closed ;-), and then the crazed Winner Party where everyone celebrated fanatically. :-)

Although some things have changed over time, I still consider Entrecard to be a great place for getting targeted traffic to your site and, more importantly, to connect with outstanding individuals all the while having a wonderful time.

So again, welcome back y’all, and let’s have some fun again! :-)

—Marcus

I’m on my way to San Diego, to a jam packed Frank Kern invite-only weekend seminar. One of the neat things is that I’m traveling business class for the very first time (paid 90,000 miles for it), and I already enjoy a good breakfast in the Lufthansa Lounge at the moment. That pays back very well considering how little time I’ve slept last night…

Besides that, I’m looking forward to the things I’ll learn, and to the new stuff I’m about to teach you, my blog readers.

I probably won’t have time for a walk in the sun (other than a “round trip” from my accommodation to the seminar location). But that’s OK because right after I get back from the U.S. I’m heading back to sunny Brazil. A good half year in Germany was great, and I’m already missing it, but I’m also looking forward to spending some time in Brazil again.

Either way, if you’re in San Diego as well just give me a ring. :-)

–Marcus Hochstadt

P.S. Isn’t it amazing how Frank has transformed his live over the past years?

I urge you to check it out as soon as possible before they’re gone forever.

Well, perhaps it already is too late…

That said, I’ll be creating some pretty cool stuff with Aaron Brandon together very soon. As a matter of fact, we’ll be meeting on the phone this very week sharing our strategies on how to start a thriving Internet business.

Who’s Aaron anyway?

Well, one could say we’re two shining James Brausch apprentices. ;-)

Anyway, we’re going to share some hard core techniques and strategies on that call. We’ll come up with plenty of cool stuff, that’s fo sho, and it’ll help a bunch of people.

Yes, we’re going to create a product out of it.

We know what’s going on in the Internet business world today, how badly people are struggling and starving to make a living online, and this product, with its step-by-step advice, would certainly sell like crazy. But, perhaps I’ll give it away for free to those who sign up to my newsletter here.

What do you think?

Well, just browse through past entries of my blog to get an idea, and take a look at the seven James Brausch DVDs still on sale here (sidebar) that provide precise step-by-step instructions on how he made millions online. (As a matter of fact, just last week I offered something very cool to my list of subscribers that was James Brausch related. You may want to subscribe to my blog announcement list to receive notice of more cool stuff that’s coming up soon.)

Anyway, James Brausch is back — not in the Internet business scene (yet?), but I’m very glad to read (and learn) from James again, nonetheless.

If you’re using an autoresponder — and since you’re reading my blog you certainly are — you’re eventually concerned about the Open Rate of your list. If not, or if you’re still sending your newsletters in plain text format only (which I used to do until just recently), then you can dismiss this post for the time being. Bookmark and come back to it once you do.

The other day I received a “last newsletter issue” from a spiritual business person in which he expressed the concern of apparently low open rates. He grieved that only 25% would actually open the issues questioning why he should continue sending the advice if 75% would not even bother reading it (my own MyGermanCity.com’s stats exemplify the opposite, BTW).

This made me realize that even high profile Internet business people are still concerned about open rates? I was under the impression that dignitaries would be aware of the idiosyncrasies of open rates and that we have to take them with a grain of salt — especially those who use AWeber‘s main package (like I do).

Are you aware that a portion of your audience has set their e-mail client to block the display of images in e-mails received? And are you aware that AWeber tracks the open rates by slyly including a reference to a tiny image from within e-mail campaigns? So those who block the display of images in e-mails would read your message but the autoresponder stats would imply that they have not opened it.

On the other hand, and this is another oddity, if your subscribers open an individual message more than once, they’re being counted as often as they accept the display of images each time they open that issue. In other words, let’s say Joe opens the message today and then next week again, it will be counted as if two subscribers opened your newsletter. Yup.

This may count especially heavily for e-zines with a ton of high quality content where subscribers will likely read it again and again.

Solution?

Well, I welcome further elaboration on this matter. Besides, I’m aware of extended subscriptions in which one can activate tools which resolve this issue.

Still, what about those who are not willing to pay double price and still, to some extend, trust the current stats? How can you improve its accuracy?

Let me list a couple of solutions on how to get more valid open rates in your e-mail campaigns…

Include a distinctive header image without which the issue looks somewhat incomplete.

Include a unique image for each individual newsletter issue that will make your audience want to display pictures so they can see what interesting graphic or pic you show them this time.

Have your newsletter inundated with images so that it can’t be read without accepting the whole enchilada. This is a personal choice, and it’s not my favorite, but it may be highly effective for select audiences. The downside is that the open rate could ridiculously shoot to the roof since folks will likely open individual issues more than once and thus need to unblock images each and every time or else they cannot read a single word of it.

What do you do or use to refine the accuracy of your open rates? Or do you still send your issues in plain text and thus don’t really care about them?

—Marcus Hochstadt
