I can really relate. I broke my neck when I was 16 (also late August!) and I got very lucky. I was in intensive care for awhile, then in a Stryker bed for 6 weeks (they don't use them anymore) then in a neck brace for another 6 weeks. My doctor was so good that I lead a pretty normal life today. I just realized - that was almost 30 years ago! I have only very minor problems associated with the broken neck. My daughter just turned 25, I get around like everyone else (well, some new things are cropping up - only because i'm aging) and I live a basically normal life. Things could have been so different for me - the other way, like Bill, I could have been confined to a wheelchair. And I would have been paralyzed from the NECK down. I am SO LUCKY! I need to remember that as I go about my day. The challenges I face now are certainly worthy - I need to bring a better attitude to the table with me to face them.
